MS Access with an Oracle Database May 27, 2007 MS Access is a well-known tool, with many IT and business people able to write queries and reports themselves. MS Access can be a fast prototyping tool before you jump into creating an elaborate Oracle Forms or .NET application. We all know why an Oracle database makes great sense: its reliable, secure, fast and best of all it doesn't randomly corrupt the same way an Access database does. Put these two technologies together and you have an enterprise database to store the tables and you have an easy to use front-end to quickly create forms, reports and queries. The idea is to store all tables in Oracle and then link to these from Access. To do this from Access, click on File >> Get External Data >> Link Tables. Choose the ODBC connection to your Oracle database and then select your tables. Note: if you're prompted to select a unique field for your tables, make sure you do, otherwise you will not be able to insert new records.
